WT290 (30 m/s) HS Ruhr

Referenceproject WT290

Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences
The WT290 wind tunnel was built for the Ruhr West University (contact person: Prof. Dr. Dinan Wang). The wind tunnel is characterized by its Eiffel construction, high contraction and the test section with pressure chamber.

Highlights
  • High contraction of 9
  • Modular construction
  • Mobile unit - can be moved on rollers
  • Test section with pressure chamber
  • Three-axis traversing system
  • Ideal for teaching purposes

Product description
Basic structure
The WT290 consists of a steel profile welded construction and galvanized sheet metal. The additional painting gives the wind tunnel an attractive appearance and is also protection against corrosion. The modular structure of the wind tunnel enables it to be split in the middle into two segments. This means that the wind tunnel can also be moved into conventional passenger elevators using rollers on the feet.
Drive
The WT290 is driven by a vibration-decoupled axial fan. The fan, which is mounted on spring shock absorbers, is connected to the wind tunnel via canvas flanges. This ensures low-noise plant operation.
Flow preparation
Turbulence at the air inlet is prevented by four sieves with optimal distance from one another. Furthermore, irregularities in the flow direction of the incoming air are suppressed in a honeycomb rectifier. In a nozzle, the nozzle geometry of which corresponds to a 7th order polynomial, the flow is prepared and any turbulence that may be present is suppressed.
Measurement
The measurement in the wind tunnel is carried out with an open test section in a pressure chamber. The inside of the measuring chamber can be seen through glass windows. The recording of flow characteristics using optical measurement methods, e.g. PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) or LDA (Laser Doppler Anemometry) is possible without any problems.
Highlights
A three-axis traversing system is built into the pressure chamber of the WT290, which enables precise measurement of the test objects in the test section. The test section is equipped with a wind tunnel scale. This enables the simultaneous logging of 3 forces and 3 moments on the test object.
